AFANT Launches Land-Based Fishing Guide

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is proudly supporting the release of a new guidebook by the Amateur Fishermen's Association of the NT (AFANT), showcasing the best land-based fishing opportunities in and around Darwin.

The Land Based Fishing Guide - Darwin and Beyond has been produced by AFANT with support from the Northern Territory Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme.

Minister for Recreational Fishing Gerard Maley today joined AFANT CEO David Ciaravolo for the launch of the 64-page guide, which provides practical tips, local knowledge and safety advice to help new and experienced anglers make the most of jetties, fishing platforms, rocky headlands and tidal beaches across Darwin, Palmerston, Dundee and Katherine.

"This guide is about connecting Territorians, tourists and new residents with one of the best parts of living in the Top End - wetting a line and enjoying our world-class fishing," Mr Maley said.

"Whether you're new to fishing or looking to try a different spot, this guide has everything you need to make the most of our great outdoors, while also staying Crocwise."

"It's another example of our government's year of action, certainty and security, supporting recreational fishing and restoring the Territory lifestyle so more people can enjoy the thrill of fishing in the NT."

Recreational fishing already contributes $144 million each year to the Northern Territory economy, so initiatives like this guidebook help support both our lifestyle and our local communities.

AFANT CEO David Ciaravolo said the new guidebook will be an invaluable resource for locals and visitors alike.

"At AFANT we are passionate about connecting Territorians and visiting tourists with the great fishing that the Territory has on offer, so we are thrilled to launch the new Land Based Fishing Guide - Darwin and Beyond," Mr Ciaravolo said.

"Fishing from the shore in the Top End is exciting for visitors and a valued part of the Territory lifestyle, but new spots can be a bit tricky at first, with big tides, seasonal changes, and the need to be Crocwise."

"The new guide provides photos and tips for fishing at different tides, as well as advice on the best fishing techniques and key messages to help people stay safe."

"We thank the Northern Territory Government for their support through the NT Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme, and we thank Minister Maley for joining us to launch the guidebook today."

Fishing and Outdoor World owner and long-time recreational fishing advocate Ronald Voukolos said the guide will be a valuable resource for both visitors and locals.

"Darwin and the Top End is famous for its fishing and this guide will be a great tool to help visitors and locals alike unlock the secrets to this fishery."

" 'Where can I go fishing around here?' If I only had a dollar for every time I get asked that! This land based fishing guide is going to be so helpful, well done AFANT."

The Land Based Fishing Guide - Darwin and Beyond is now available at local tackle shops and the Top End Visitor Information Centre.
