Affordable airfares between Perth and Exmouth extended

  • Affordable airfare program extended between April and October 2020
  • Introduction of Airbus A320 on Saturday and Sunday flights increasing capacity
  • More than 7,830 discount seats on offer over the six-month 2020 season
  • Initiative supports jobs and helps boost the local economy
  • Qantas in partnership with the State Government, through Tourism Western Australia, will extend its affordable airfare program for six months on selected flights between Perth and Exmouth following a successful trial earlier this year.

The special weekend fares of $169 one-way will be available from April 10 to October 12, 2020 on selected flights taken from Friday through Monday, when booked 45 days ahead of travel. These fares can be booked online or through travel agents.

Qantas will introduce the larger Airbus A320 on the Saturday and Sunday flights over the six-month season, providing an additional 6,030 seats between Perth and Exmouth compared to 2019. The smaller Fokker 100 aircrafts will continue to operate on Fridays and Mondays.

The program extension is part of the State Government's commitment to work with airlines and other partners to introduce affordable fares where possible, encouraging more people to holiday in regional WA, while making a trip to the city more economical for regional residents.

It follows the introduction of the special weekend fares between Perth and Exmouth from June to September this year. Over the 12 week trial, more than 1,100 Perth residents used this fare - their spending injected $1.3 million into the region's economy.

Avis and regional tourism organisation Australia's Coral Coast will also continue discounted relocation fees when hiring a car to drive one-way during peak travel periods next year.

From April 1 to October 31, 2020, customers can pay a $250 relocation fee if hiring a car to drive from Perth to Exmouth, and $150 if hiring from Exmouth and driving back to Perth.

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

"The State Government is pleased to be working with Qantas to extend these affordable fares between Perth and Exmouth.

"The trial for these affordable fares earlier this year was extremely successful, with a 91 per cent take-up on fares, so we're very pleased to be able to offer the same fares next year.

"Exmouth, which is near the Ningaloo Reef, is one of Western Australia's iconic tourism destinations and this Qantas deal, coupled with the Avis offer, will make the region even more attractive to visitors."
