Aggravated Assault, Burglary Suspects Arrested in Nightcliff by Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested two men after an aggravated assault and burglary in Nightcliff yesterday afternoon.

At 1:20pm, police received a report of a male offender attempting to use a hammer to smash a window of a service station to gain entry.

A 54-year-old male who was passing by at the time, approached the offender attempting to intervene. At this time, one other offender attended the scene armed with an axe.

The male returned to his vehicle to retreat, before the offenders smashed a window of his vehicle and struck the male with an axe causing a laceration to his shoulder.

The offender returned to the service station and smashed a window, gaining entry and stealing several small items before leaving the scene.

The 54-year-old male received treatment at the Royal Darwin Hospital for minor injuries.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident have arrested an 18-year-old and a 28-year-old.

They remain in custody and are expected to be charged later today.
