- Cook Government working to empower victim-survivors leaving family and domestic violence situations
- Free replacement driver's licences, learners permits and WA photo cards available for FDV impacted women
- Announcement during 16 Days in WA part of commitment to building safe and inclusive communities
The Cook Government is helping victim-survivors of family and domestic violence (FDV) to reclaim their identities with the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) providing free replacement driver's licences, learner's permits or WA photo cards.
Waiving fees delivers practical and immediate support for victim-survivors rebuilding their lives by ensuring access to crucial identification and reducing the risks of identity fraud.
All replacement driver's licence and learner's permit cards are printed with a unique card number, required for a person's identity to pass the Australian Government's Document Verification Service check.
DTMI provides other services to support victim-survivors including the DoTDirect online platform that requires multi-factor authentication to access more than 140 DTMI services to keep their identity secure and manage their driver's and vehicle licences.

DTMI will keep taking action to improve WA's FDV response, with further policy changes that deliver even stronger support for victim-survivors.
As stated by Minister Assisting the Transport Minister Jessica Stojkovski:
"I thank the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure for playing a part in the Cook Government's 16 Days in WA campaign, with a new policy to support FDV victim-survivors keep their identity secure.
"In cases where victim-survivors have limited identification after leaving an FDV situation without their driver's licence, learner's permit or WA photo card, waiving the fee for a replacement copy of these documents provides the victim-survivor with crucial identification at no cost.
"I encourage anyone leaving an FDV situation to visit a DTMI centre to access this licensing support, part of the Cook Government's commitment to building safe, strong and inclusive communities."
