Air Crash Victims Memorial Day Observed Globally

UK Gov

Friday 20 February 2026 is the International Day Commemorating Air Crash Victims and Their Families

Our dedicated team remains committed to conducting thorough and independent investigations, working to improve aviation safety and prevent future accidents.

In addition to supporting victims and families involved in accidents investigated by the UK AAIB, in June 2025, we deployed a team to visit the site of the accident to Air India Flight 171 and remain available to provide information to the families of UK victims and their families when any update is published by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of India.

We also continue to develop and train our staff in supporting victims and their families. In January 2026, a team from the AAIB attended the ECAC European regional workshop on supporting air accident victims and their families through use of family assistance plans and heard directly from those affected by aircraft accidents.

We acknowledge the profound impact these tragic events have on victims and their families and will continue to ensure they are treated with respect and are kept informed throughout our investigation process.
