Air Quality Update 20 May 2019

The Latrobe Valley is experiencing calm cold conditions this morning.

These conditions cause a build-up of airborne particles that may affect local air quality.

Air quality in the Latrobe Valley is classified as UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS at Churchill and Newborough. Air quality at Moe is UNHEALTHY FOR ALL – in those conditions everyone should reduce prolonged or heavy physical activity.

Stronger winds and forecast rain are expected to bring improved conditions during the day.

EPA's forecast is for POOR to VERY POOR air quality in the Latrobe Valley for the next 2 to 3 hours. Air quality is expected to improve to GOOD this afternoon..

Everyone should take necessary precautions to protect their health. People are reminded to open their windows and ventilate their homes and businesses during periods of reduced smoke activity

Air quality and your health

When the air quality health category is UNHEALTHY SENSITIVE, people over 65, children 14 years and younger, pregnant women and those with existing heart or lung conditions should avoid prolonged or heavy physical activity altogether.

When the air quality health category is UNHEALTHY FOR ALL, everyone should reduce prolonged or heavy physical activity.

Anyone with a heart or lung condition should take their medication as prescribed by their doctor.

People with asthma should follow their asthma management plan.

Anyone with concerns about their health should seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24.
