Airbus partners to launch New Zealand Aerospace Challenge 2019

Christchurch, Friday 8 March 2019 – Airbus today launched The New Zealand Aerospace Challenge 2019 in partnership with the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, and the country's Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Throughout the Challenge, which starts in Christchurch today, Airbus will provide geospatial data and mentors to the participants. This includes university students and start-ups, who will aim to use emerging technologies to find solutions to environmental issues. The Challenge will culminate with a "Pitchfest" of ideas in October.

Airbus provides geospatial information in support of a range of farming practices, including broadacre cropping, dairy and viticulture. This information, when integrated with data such as agronomy, soil and climate data, can be used to develop and refine new tools to assess, monitor, improve and redress environmental and economic risks in the industry.

The New Zealand Aerospace Challenge 2019 an outcome of one of the initiatives from the Letter of Intent by signed by Airbus and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment in 2018 as part of the government's Innovative Partnerships programme.
