Councillor Geoff Akers was elected as Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council for a one-year term at today's Additional Council Meeting.
In Cr Akers' Mayoral address following the election, he said he was grateful for the opportunity to represent his fellow Councillors, Council office and the wider Greater Shepparton community.
"It is a privilege to serve as Mayor, and I appreciate the trust and confidence placed in me. I recognise the responsibility and will bring energy, respect and a genuine commitment to serving the community," he said.
"As we embark on this journey, we will work together to deliver on our commitments and responsibly manage the resources entrusted to us by ratepayers.
"My vision for the year ahead is simple: to be a Council that listens, a Council that leads, and a Council that gets things done. We have strong foundations, enormous opportunities, and a community we should be incredibly proud to represent."
Councillor Rod Schubert was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor for a one-year term.
"I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my fellow Councillors for their confidence in me. I am genuinely honoured. This is not a title, but a responsibility," he said.
"I am committed to listening to our community, standing up for their interests and making sure every voice is heard around the table. Greater Shepparton is strongest when every community member feels they matter.
"My commitment is to be a Deputy Mayor who listens, works hard to deliver outcomes and is prepared to ask difficult questions when required."
Council also adopted the Councillors Statement of Expectations for the Mayor.
