Alcohol Ban Over Australia Day Break

City of Port Phillip
A City-wide alcohol ban will be in force across all Port Phillip public spaces over the Australia Day break.

The ban applies from 8 pm Sunday 25 January to 12 midday Tuesday 27 January.

Victoria Police will be enforcing the ban with support from Local Laws officers.

Breaching the ban risks confiscation and a $204 fine. The permanent glass ban at beaches, reserves and parks carries the same fine.

A separate alcohol ban along the St Kilda foreshore continues until Council's annual summer management campaign ends on 31 March.

Port Phillip Council Mayor Alex Makin said Port Phillip's beautiful parks and beaches were being enjoyed responsibly so far during the popular summer season.

"We've really appreciated everyone playing their part for a safe and successful summer and want this to continue over the next public holiday long weekend," Cr Makin said.

"Christmas and the New Year went well without disruption from litter or alcohol related issues and we're planning for an equally safe and successful experience for visitors and residents over the next few days," he said.

"There's a fantastic range of licensed venues available for those wanting to enjoy a drink, great food or both."

Council's efforts to help keep beaches, streets and reserves clean includes providing extra public bins across the City, including at the much-loved St Kilda Botanical Gardens.

DJs or loud amplified music are not allowed at the foreshore or the heritage-protected botanical gardens, with visitors to these areas urged to be respectful to everyone around them.

People concerned about dangerous jet ski rider behaviour should call 000.
