Kiama Municipal Council wishes to advise beachgoers they can now swim at Black Beach and Kiama Harbour after the marine algal bloom that washed ashore on Monday has dissipated.
Algal blooms (cyanobacteria) can produce toxins that cause skin irritation and if people see them, they should avoid swimming, surfing or other activities that could bring them into direct contact with the bloom.
They typically disperse quickly with changes in wind and tides.
