Police have charged an alleged drunk driver who left a path of destruction behind that lead to his arrest yesterday afternoon.
The 46-year-old man drew the attention of patrolling police after he crashed into a shopping centre welcome sign in Werribee about 3.15pm.
The Hoppers Crossing man allegedly then mounted the footpath and sped through a bus stop.
Police indicated for the man to pull over but he turned onto Derrimut Road where he collected a street sign and drove off.
Following a 500m trail of downed street signs instead of breadcrumbs, members ended up in Dunk Ct however the man and his Holden Commodore were nowhere in sight.
Suddenly a man appeared on the street riding an electric scooter and the keen-eyed police officer was able to identify him as the alleged driver.
He was arrested without incident and taken to Werribee Police Station to be breathalysed, returning an alleged reading of .149.
Police charged the man with a range of offences including, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, failing to stop after a collision, failing to stop on police direction, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, learner driver drive unaccompanied and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was bailed to appear in Wyndham Magistrates' Court on 21 October.
