Hooves will thunder as 100 competitors from across the state descend on Alton Downs this weekend for Polocrosse Under Lights.
Rockhampton Regional Council is proudly supporting the event, hosted by the Alton Downs Polocrosse and Sports Club, with a $5,500 sponsorship through the Community Assistance Program.
The event, forms part of the club's annual carnival weekend, which has been running for 62 years.
Mayor Tony Williams said it's great to see events like this continue.
"62 years is a real achievement and a credit to the volunteers and members who keep it going.
"We're expecting competitors from right across the state, and that's great not only for the club but also for local businesses and the wider community.
"Council is proud to support events like this through our Community Assistance Program because they help keep our communities connected and showcase everything that's great about life in our Region."
Alton Downs Polocrosse and Sports Club Treasurer Alex Reid said the event was a much-loved fixture on the local sporting calendar.
"The Alton Downs Carnival has been part of our community for 62 years, and it is wonderful to see generations of players and families continuing to support the club," Mr Reid said.
"Polocrosse Under Lights brings a new level of excitement to the weekend and gives spectators the opportunity to experience the speed, skill and horsemanship of the sport in a family-friendly setting.
"Support from Rockhampton Regional Council helps us meet the significant costs of hosting the event and ensures we can continue providing a safe, high-quality carnival for the community."
The Alton Downs Polocrosse Under Lights will be held on Saturday, 25 July, from 6pm at 3330 Stanwell-Waroula Road, Alton Downs.
Entry is free, with meals available for purchase at the event.
The Community Assistance Program supports non-profit, community-based organisations through grants and sponsorships for projects and events that enhance the wellbeing of the region.
Applications for the next round of the Community Assistance Program open in September.
