- Global powerhouse Amazon is expanding its operations in South East Queensland, with construction starting on an unprecedented fulfillment centre in Greater Flagstone.
- The $750 million facility will leverage Greater Flagstone's growing position as a major trade and logistics epicentre, using its connectivity to the Gateway Motorway, Port of Brisbane and Brisbane Airport.
- The development will create 1000 jobs for Queenslanders and is the result of a partnership between Amazon, Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) and Trade Investment Queensland (TIQ).
- Under the Crisafulli Government, Queensland is finally open for business after a decade of decline under Labor.
Queensland businesses and local jobs are set for a major boost, after the Crisafulli Government helped secure Amazon's $750 million state-wide fulfillment centre to Greater Flagstone.
The facility will span over 141,000m2 within the Greater Flagstone Logistics Estate and capitalise on major logistic hubs such as the Gateway Motorway, Port of Brisbane and Brisbane Airport.
The development, driven by the Crisafulli Government, in close partnership with Amazon, Charter Hall, and Logan City Council, will support approximately 2000 construction jobs and on completion create jobs for approximately 1000 Queenslanders.
The site will operate 24/7, utilising advanced logistics and world class technologies for optimal efficiency.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy and ensuring Queensland is open for business after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government.
Deputy Premier, and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations, Jarrod Bleijie said the project highlighted the Crisafulli Government's renewed focus on growth after years of stagnation under Labor.
"For a decade, development in Queensland was allowed to languish and business was effectively shut out, but the Crisafulli Government has made it clear that Queensland is open for business again," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"This Amazon investment is proof of what happens when a government chooses to back industry instead of block it and this is exactly the kind of economic momentum Queensland deserves and that the Crisafulli Government is proud to back.
"EDQ also approved this application in record time – just 35 business days. It's the fastest approval Amazon has received for a development of this scale and complexity in Australia to date – a stark contrast to the decade of delays and missed opportunities under Labor."
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the Crisafulli Government was proud to mark the start of construction on this worldclass facility and to welcome Amazon's continued expansion in South East Queensland.
"The Crisafulli Government is removing barriers for business, opening doors and welcoming investment – and it's clear the world is watching," Minister Bates said.
"This new facility will be a huge boost for local businesses which sell through Amazon. It'll help them grow by reaching more customers, delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy."
Amazon Australia's Director of Operations Wayne Angus said this investment demonstrated Amazon's commitment to Queensland customers and its confidence in the state's growing economy.
"People are at the heart of our operations, and by combining innovative robotics technology with skilled local talent in this state-of-the-art site, we're building a workplace where people and technology work hand in hand to deliver for our customers," Mr Angus said.
"We are grateful to the Queensland Government's support in making this investment possible and advocating for an innovating industry.
"We look forward to supporting the local community as we partner with schools and community groups around the new facility and creating new opportunities for the Queensland-based small and medium businesses who use Amazon to seamlessly service customers across the country."
The facility will operate in addition to Amazon's Lytton fulfillment centre, which houses more than half a million items from health, household and personal care items to electronics and other products.
The Greater Flagstone Logistics Estate is located within the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) – delivering over 50,000 homes for up to 138,000 Queenslanders once completed.
The Greater Flagstone PDA is one of South East Queensland's key growth corridors, with the Urban Development Institute of Australia confirming the PDA is estimated to provide approximately 14% of the region's entire greenfield land supply towards homes.
