Today, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Romania's Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu during Minister Anand's visit to Bucharest, Romania.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed economic opportunities in strategic sectors, including nuclear energy and defence production.
The ministers also discussed security developments. Canada stands with Romania in the face of recurring Russian drone incursions. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to NATO's eastern flank and regional security, including in the Republic of Moldova. They underscored their enduring support for Ukraine in Russia's ongoing war of aggression. They agreed on the value of efforts to establish the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress under the Canada-Romania Consolidated Partnership and Roadmap and to coordinate positions on key geopolitical issues. They welcomed the conclusion of negotiations for a new General Security of Information Agreement, which will facilitate cooperation on national security matters between Canadian and Romanian defence, security and nuclear industries.
