ANG Cyber Squadrons Join Fort Gordon

The Department of the Air Force has selected Fort Gordon, Georgia, as the preferred location for two Air National Guard cyber operations squadrons.

The 117th Air Control Squadron will be inactivated at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, Georgia, as part of the 2025 defense budget divestment of 50% of the ANG Tactical Air Control Party and Control and Reporting Center missions across the force. The 2025 defense budget also reassigned a portion of the manpower to other missions.

Georgia ANG will convert this reassigned manpower to support the new cyber squadrons, which aligns with an increase focus on cyber capabilities in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Georgia will lose four full time personnel authorizations and 39 part time personnel authorizations.

The service anticipates full operational capability in spring 2030.
