Bayside Council will undertake a feasibility assessment to identify the potential of increasing parking at the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre following a decision at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 27 May.
The Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre is one of Bayside Council's most popular recreational facilities. Patronage remains exceptionally strong and the high level of use has resulted in ongoing congestion in surrounding streets.
Council will revisit previously scoped solutions to find a way to better support one of its busiest recreational facilities and meet the current and future needs of the community.
Feasibility work undertaken in 2023 looked at options including an additional level on the existing car park, parking across Preddy's Road, and additional parking along Preddys Lane. A parking demand survey was undertaken at that time.
Expanding the number of spaces available off Preddys Lane was determined to be the most feasible option, acknowledging that staff or visitors need to walk to the centre via Preddys Road.
A design has been prepared for two groups of 9 additional spaces (total18 spaces), which will be delivered in 2026-27.
As a first step, staff will provide a summary report on the findings of the 2023 study in relation to the land on Preddys Road, opposite the Aquatic Centre and the challenges in providing a safe pedestrian crossing in that location.
