The Surf Coast is getting an electric boost, with a brand-new EV charger now operational in Anglesea.
Funded through the Victorian Government's Destination Charging across Victoria program, the Anglesea EV charger is one of four new public EV stations being rolled out across the Surf Coast Shire.
The new EV chargers will be located at:
- Anglesea – Community Hub (now operational).
- Lorne - Visitor Information Centre (operational since December 2024).
- Winchelsea - Old Library Building (works underway, will be operational by end of the year).
- Aireys Inlet - Community Hall (works about to start, will be operational by end of the year).
The Anglesea EV charger is the town's first public charging station.
"With more visitors driving electric or hybrid vehicles, it's important to have reliable charging stations to keep people on the road," said Cr Leon Walker.
"The Lorne charger came online just in time for the busy summer season, and it's fantastic to see another one ready in Anglesea."
Charging station sites were selected based on key criteria, including:
- Council owned and operated switchboard and meter.
- Ability to upgrade the power supply.
- Convenient, easy to find location for travellers.
- Minimal impacts on heritage buildings and existing parking.
"Once all four chargers are operational, visitors will have more options for topping up their vehicles while exploring our region," said Cr Leon Walker.
"These sites help fill important gaps for EV drivers travelling through the area."
