Our land has always been our guide, teaching us when the seasons shift, when rivers rise, and when animals move. For generations and thousands of years, First Nations people have cared for Country, reading the changes in the wind, water, and soil.
Today, Country is speaking in new ways. There's more heat, stronger storms, less water in some places, and too much water in others. These changes are not part of the old cycles they are largely driven by human activities. They are affecting Country and our communities in many ways.
Some rivers and waterholes are drying up. Bushfoods and medicines are becoming harder to find. Important animals are being impacted as their homes change. Rising sea levels threaten coastal areas, and extreme weather is making it harder to live.
First Nations people are leading the way in looking after our land, waterways and skies, continuing the legacy of our Ancestors. When we care for Country, keeping soils healthy, preventing bushfires, and protecting oceans and bushland, we are part of the solution.
First Nations people have always been resilient. Today, that means using Traditional Knowledge and new technologies to keep Country and communities strong.
Community-led management of Country can help us live well, even as the climate changes.
These efforts are opening up new opportunities for Mob. And bring opportunities for meaningful partnerships that can help share economic benefits of the energy transition. Renewable energy projects - like solar and wind power - can create jobs and careers on Country. These projects can also provide better access to reliable energy.
Caring for land and sea through cultural burning, ranger programs and other on Country activities can help keep sacred sites safe from climate change.
Strengthening our knowledge systems and handing them down to young ones and the next generation will ensure that cultures and knowledges continue, even in a changing world.
We can be involved at home, and on the international stage. Across nations and countries mob are joining together to make their voices heard on climate matters across the globe. And we can too.
The choices we make today will shape the future. By working together, we can create a future where Country is healthy, communities are strong, and the knowledge of the past continues to guide us forward.
We belong to Country. When we care for Country, Country cares for us.
