Townsville City Council has today adopted its 2024/25 Annual Report, reflecting the organisation's ongoing commitment to growing Townsville.
The document details Council's activities and achievements from the past financial year, measured against the organisation's Corporate Plan 2021-2026. The report was endorsed at today's Ordinary Meeting.
Townsville Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the report highlighted the ways in which Council was delivering for Townsville's growing population.
"Our Council is one of the largest councils in the state, managing more than $10 billion worth of assets, including roads, bridges, drains, open space, facilities and parks for our city," Cr Greaney said.
"In the past financial year we delivered on our commitment to core services, investing more than $193 million into capital works, including road infrastructure and maintenance, footpath renewals and improvements to the city's water and wastewater networks.
"Townsville is experiencing continued population growth, with our community increasing by 1.7 per cent in the past financial year. With that being front of mind, Council has worked to implement the Local Housing Action Plan, making sure Townsville grows sustainably and in a way that protects our lifestyle and creates new opportunities for our residents.
"Together, these activities have moved Council closer to its vision of growing Townsville as a globally connected community driven by lifestyle and nature."
Cr Greaney said Council's operating result for the last financial year was a reduced deficit of $3.28 million, compared to a forecast deficit of $4.2 million reported during the adoption of the 2025/26 budget.
"Council's commitment to good financial decisions have significantly improved the operating position of Council during the past financial year, showing the importance of Council's continued efforts to improve the organisation's financial position," Cr Greaney said.
"The Annual Report also shows just how well Council has measured up to Council's Corporate Plan, which outlines the organisation's vision and its priorities and strategies to achieve key goals. Council has been able to mark strong advancement towards its goals this past financial year.
"A few highlights of Council's achievements in the report include the introduction of the new mobile library van; bringing Containers for Change on board for a new container recycling trial; an increase in development across the city; completing the new 10km pipeline from Ross River Dam to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant to provide long-term water security for the city, and leading the local disaster-coordinated response through the January and February rainfall event."
