The Bob Brown Foundation’s latest stunt in the Arthur-Pieman region is a fraud.
The "occupation’’ is on lawfully mandated land in which Sustainable Timber Tasmania operates and where there is no active harvesting.
More than 96 per cent of Braddon voters didn’t want a bar of the Greens in this year’s State election.
The people of Braddon understand that the Arthur-Pieman region already includes a national park, conservation areas and regional reserves.
They also understand it has been used for 150 years for mining, forestry, farming and fishing. It also contains Tasmania’s largest mine – the Savage River Mine – as well as rail lines, roads and multiple use tracks.
Tasmania’s record of environmental protection is world-leading. We still have two-thirds of the forest cover that existed before European settlement and half our State is covered by forests, half of which are reserved. That includes one million hectares of old growth forest.
Bob Brown’s Green minority doesn’t speak for Tasmanians and they certainly don’t speak for Tasmanians who value jobs in our productive industries like mining and forestry.
