Increasingly, the answer is – 'I'd like to work for myself'.
As the workforce changes so too does the nature of work with more young people turning to entrepreneurship to craft their career pathway.
Logan City Council is committed to creating an innovative city of the future and is taking part in a ground-breaking program designed to transform high school students into cutting-edge, socially conscious entrepreneurs who can solve issues and create their own jobs.
The Future Anything program gives students an understanding of the world around them to help them design their own innovative, scalable and sustainable business solutions before pitching their ideas in a school-based 'Shark Tank' event.
Council is now looking to support Logan schools to sign up to the 2020 Future Anything, by offering up to $1500 co-funding per school towards the program.
Marsden State High School participated in the 2019 Future Anything program and recently held its own Shark Tank event. The winning teams included;
1st place Light Up My World - a range of children's books focused on current youth /children issues that are designed to improve literacy for children suffering from poverty.
2nd place Sustainable Sports Solutions - sustainable sports equipment made from recycled plastics.
3rd place One Ocean - sustainability packs that contribute to improving ocean health.
People's Choice Global Care - custom merchandise that promotes quality healthcare for people in disadvantaged countries.
"The program is a fantastic opportunity to rethink our English curriculum in order to provide students with real-world experiences," Marsden State High School Deputy Principal Garrath McPherson said.
"It has fostered an entrepreneurial mindset in our students and given them skills to create change.
"It has provided teachers a catalyst to innovate their own pedagogy to create student-centered learning environments that give students voice and choice in the classroom."
Council's involvement in Future Anything has been made possible through its partnership with the State Government's Advancing Regional Innovation Program (ARIP) program.
ARIP enables entrepreneurs, business leaders and key industries to collaborate closely with government to harness innovation, unlock business potential and prepare Queenslanders for the jobs of the future.
