ANZAC Day 2022: Port Adelaide Enfield

This ANZAC Day on 25 April, the RSL are encouraging you to Light up the Dawn and Commemorate your way.

How you honour and remember those who are serving and those who have served is up to you. Take time to reflect on ANZAC Day in a way that means the most to you.

The ANZAC Spirit lives on in us all, and on ANZAC Day we invite you to honour our Defence men and women in a way that is meaningful to you. We encourage all Australians to take the time to commemorate – whether at a march, an ANZAC Day service or by lighting up the dawn at home.

As always there will be a number of events happening around the city however there have been some changes this year due to COVID restrictions. To see what is happening with services and events near you contact your local RSL branch or visit the RSL website at www.rslsa.org.au

Council office, libraries and sports and community centres will be closed on Monday 25 April. You can make a request for service 24/7 via eCouncil – Online Services

Outside of office hours, our After Hours Service can be reached on 8405 6600. In the event of an accident where a serious or life threatening injury has occurred, contact 000 in the first instance.

Bin collections scheduled for Monday 25 April will occur as normal.

To get you in the spirit here is a recipe for ANZAC Biscuits, from The Capricornian (Rockhampton. Queensland) on Saturday, 14th August 1926. The popular ANZAC biscuit is a traditional, eggless sweet biscuit. Early recipes did not include coconut.

Ingredients

*2 cups rolled oats

*1/2 cup sugar

*1 cup plain flour

*1/2 cup melted butter

*1 tablespoons golden syrup

*2 tablespoons boiling water

*1 tsp bicarbonate soda (add a little more water if mixture is too dry)

Method

1. Combine dry ingredients.

2. Mix golden syrup, boiling water and bicarbonate of soda until it froths. Add melted butter.

3. Combine butter mixture and dry ingredients.

4. Drop teaspoons of mixture onto floured tray, allowing room for spreading.

5. Bake in a slow oven.
