On Anzac Day, at memorials and ceremonies across the country, and around the world, we remember those who served our nation. We honour the courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice of the Anzacs.
The Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus Campbell, AO DSC, attended Commemorative Services in New Zealand today, and said Anzac Day holds a very special place in the bond between Australia and New Zealand.
"Each year we gather before dawn to remember those who have served in defence of our freedom and carry the Anzac Day story forward," General Campbell said.
"Anzac Day is a time to join with our fellow Australians to express our gratitude for the service of more than one and a half million citizens who have served our nation in war, conflict, and peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.
We thank all those who serve or have served in the Australian Defence Force and express our gratitude for your dedication to the nation. We also acknowledge the impact that service has on families, and for some, the difficulties of life after service.
Reflecting on the past, we gain strength from the Anzacs' legacy of courage and comradeship.

Defence senior leaders and personnel are supporting Anzac Day ceremonies in Australia and around the world.
Approximately 1500 Australian Defence Force members are currently deployed on operations, continuing the Anzac spirit while serving Australia's national interests at home and overseas.
