Anzac Day in Griffith will look a little different this year due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
Despite the changes, the Griffith RSL Sub-Branch is encouraging locals to help commemorate Anzac Day on Sunday, 25 April 2021 by attending either of the two controlled, ticketed outdoor events.
The restrictions mean there will be no march down Banna Avenue instead, a very small march for returned servicemen and women ONLY, will take place from behind the Post Office to the back entrance of Memorial Park which will be fully fenced.
The services will be conducted in Memorial Park with numbers limited to 1,000 for the Dawn Service and 2,000 for the Main Service by free ticket allocation. The free tickets can be picked up from the Griffith Ex-Servicemen's Club, Griffith City Council administration building or the Griffith City Library. Tickets are also available via Eventbrite. Separate tickets will be required for each Service.
What you need to know:
There will be three entry points into Memorial Park for both services, with QR check-in and social distancing. Entry points into the Park will be at the Post Office corner in Banna Avenue, the centre of the Park in Banna Avenue opposite the Cenotaph and at the rear of the Courthouse on the service road behind the Park.
Anzac Dawn Service: Entry points will open from 5.00am for the Dawn Service, with those attending asked to be there no later than 5.30am. There will be no Breakfast at the Exies after the Dawn Service due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Anzac Main Service: Entry points will open at 9.30am for the Main Service and patrons are encouraged to arrive early as the restricted March will commence 10.30am, followed by the Main Service at 11am. There will be limited seating available in the Park for returned servicepersons, invited guests and National Servicemen. Those requiring a chair should bring their own.
Following the Main Service, which will formally conclude at 12.30pm, lunch at the Exies will be a limited ticketed event.
The Griffith War Memorial Museum will be open immediately after the Main Service.
Griffith City Council Mayor, John Dal Broi said Council was pleased to be able to support the Anzac Day events this year.
"Despite the restrictions in place this year, it's still extremely important that we honour those who have served, and continue to serve our wonderful country," Councillor Dal Broi said.
"I'd urge locals to get in now and get their tickets and on the day, please arrive early, making sure you have your ticket on hand. Please come and show your support."
