Appeal after assault and carjacking in Drummoyne

Police are appealing for public assistance after an assault and carjacking in Drummoyne today, NSW Police say.

About 8am (Saturday 24 November 2018), a man aged in his 50s was on Victoria Road, when he was assaulted by an unknown man who punched him multiple times to the head.

Police have been told the man then crossed the road to a service station and entered the passenger seat of a grey 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer, with NSW Registration BZ 23 VN.

The driver of the Lancer, a man aged in his late 20s, was threatened to drive in the direction of the city.

While driving towards the city, the driver pulled into another service station on Victoria Road, Rozelle, and ran from the vehicle.

The offender then entered the driver’s seat and drove away in the car, which was last seen travelling east on Victoria Road.

The man has been described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, aged in his late 30s, 168cm tall, dark skin, with long black hair, and wearing a maroon/red coloured jacket, Sydney Roosters football shorts, and black runners.

Police from Burwood Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

The injured man suffered bruises and swelling to his face and was taken to a nearby medical centre for treatment.
