Appeal for witnesses after fire claims $1 million luxury vessel in northern NSW

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fire destroyed a luxury vessel valued at $1 million on the Wallis Lake Inlet in northern NSW, NSW Police say.

Just after 11pm yesterday (Tuesday 6 February 2018), emergency services were called to the Coolongolook River in Tuncurry in response to reports of a fire on a moored boat.

Four people who were asleep on board managed to escape unharmed and fire fighters were able to bring the fire under control.

The fire caused extensive damage to the vessel and following consultation with specialists from NSW HAZMAT and Roads and Maritime Services, the vessel was towed out to sea, where it eventually sank.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the fire, which is believed to have been deliberately lit, and would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the fire and is yet to provide a statement.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
