Appeal for witnesses to fatal traffic incident at Yatala, QLD

A man has died following a serious traffic crash on the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Yatala last night, Queensland Police say.

Initial information indicates the crash occurred around 9.07pm when a vehicle travelling north on the M1 slowed down and stopped in the left-hand lane at Yatala as a result of engine problems.

A truck following has slowed and activated its hazard lights before parking behind the broken down vehicle when a van travelling in the same direction has collided with the rear of the truck.

As a result the van’s driver, a man aged in his late 20s and sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the vehicle prior to the crash to contact the Springwood Forensic Crash Unit on ph: 38095277 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Three lanes of the M1 were closed for a short time.

Investigations are continuing.
