City of Darwin is inviting the community to help shape a more sustainable future, with funding available for projects that support environmental outcomes and climate resilience.

Each year, $50,000 is available through the Environment and Climate Change funding program to support innovative and sustainable local projects that contribute to achieving one or more actions within City of Darwin's 2030 Climate Emergency Strategy, Greening Darwin Strategy or Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles encouraged local organisations, community groups, not-for-profits, researchers and local businesses to apply for funding.

"These grants support initiatives that strengthen resilience, reduce environmental impact and help prepare Darwin for the challenges ahead," he said.

"I encourage any organisation planning projects with clear, measurable environmental benefits for our municipality to apply and help create a Darwin that's shaped by its people," Mr Styles said.

The 2025-26 grant program funded projects that drove sustainability, climate resilience and environmental innovation across the municipality, including: Darwin Community Arts for delivering free community workshops aimed at building climate resilience and preparedness, Waste Energy Benefits Us for expanding waste separation at Nightcliff Market through introducing volunteer-monitored bin stations, and Charles Darwin University for research into Darwin's native climbing plants, with the goal of enhancing biodiversity and increasing Darwin's urban canopy cover.

"We have also previously supported several other great projects, including Lakeside Drive Community Garden's 'Growing with the Seasons' community workshops, Landcare NT's BioEducation program in schools, and the NT Native Eco Fair event run by Territory Native Plants," he said.

The Environment and Climate Change Grants aim to support the community in increasing waste diversion from landfill, building community resilience to the impacts of a warming climate, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting and enhancing trees and natural areas.
