Applications open for Tourism Loan Scheme

Roger Jaensch,Minister for State Growth

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to support our world-class tourism industry through our $50 million Tourism Loan Scheme which is now open for applications.

We know that COVID-19 has significantly impacted our tourism industry and this scheme will ensure that Tasmanian operators can continue to improve and develop their products and experiences.

Delivering on our First 100 Day Plan, this scheme will offer operators an opportunity to rebuild and regain visitors and customers when travel returns to normal, providing an opportunity to build resilience and innovate.

We have also increased the interest-free loan amount to up to $2 million for three years, up from our initial election commitment of a capped $1 million. This will provide industry with resourcing to genuinely improve and enhance their product offering during this time and, by doing so, increase Tasmania's destination appeal.

Initiatives that are supported under this scheme will contribute to achieving the identified priorities of our T21 Visitor Economy Action Plan 2020-22. This includes, for example, championing entrepreneurism and innovation in new products and experiences that reinforce and enhance our Tassie brand and competitive strengths.

Tasmania's tourism industry is world-class and we are recognised as a must-visit global destination. This interest-free loan scheme is just one of the many ways we are supporting and strengthening the industry to secure Tasmania's future.
