Appointment to Federal Court of Australia 18 March

I am pleased to announce that Ms Lisa Hespe SC has been appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Ms Hespe has been appointed to the Victorian Registry to replace the Hon Justice Paul Anastassiou following his resignation taking effect on 29 April 2022. Ms Hespe will commence on 27 April 2022. Ms Hespe was admitted as a solicitor and barrister in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1995 and was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2021.

On behalf of the Australian Government, I congratulate Ms Hespe on her appointment and thank her for her willingness to serve the people of Australia as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Ms Lisa Hespe SC

Ms Hespe graduated with a Bachelor of Economics in 1991 and with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1994 both from the Monash University. She later obtained her Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne in 2002.

Ms Hespe began her career at Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons). She worked at Mallesons for 15 years, specialising in income tax, tax disputes and advising on mergers and acquisitions. Since 2012, she has also been a lecturer at the University of Melbourne. In 2017, Ms Hespe was appointed as a part-time Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
