Uneven progress in digitizing civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems continues to shape outcomes across the Arab region. While some countries are advancing rapidly, others face persistent challenges related to interoperability, cybersecurity, and institutional capacity.
ESCWA recently issued a study based on a regional survey and desk review, examining digitization progress and its role in producing reliable data for development planning and tracking the SDGs. The study highlights key aspects such as electronic civil registries, data exchange, legal identity, and institutional frameworks.
The report calls for strengthening digital infrastructure, improving interoperability and cybersecurity, investing in institutional capacity, and enhancing regional coordination to build more inclusive, resilient, and integrated CRVS systems.
