Ararat Pony Club Unveils Covered Sports Arena

At Tuesday night's Council Meeting, Ararat Rural City Councillors received an update on the progress of the new covered sports arena planned for the Ararat Pony Club.

The project is supported by a grant of $1.49 million from the Federal Government's Play Our Way program, enabling Council to progress with important pre-construction planning and consultation.

Council officers have worked through the necessary groundwork for the project. A feature survey and geotechnical investigation have been completed, ensuring that the foundations and layout are well designed to meet the long-term needs of the Pony Club and its members.

Two preliminary layout plans were presented to the Club, with members confirming their preferred site layout. Specifications for the project tender are now being finalised, with the tender expected to open in late August or early September. Once a contractor is appointed, detailed design work will follow before construction begins.

Mayor Jo Armstrong said the new facility represents an opportunity to support a strong and active future for equestrian sport in the region.

"This has been a carefully considered project, and it's exciting to see it moving into the next stage. The Ararat Pony Club has a proud history and a thriving membership. This new covered arena will make sure riders of all ages have access to modern facilities that encourage participation, learning, and enjoyment throughout the year," Mayor Armstrong said.

"Council has worked closely with the Pony Club to ensure the project reflects their needs, and we are grateful for the support from the Federal Government, which has made it possible for us to deliver this significant local investment."

Helen Spencer, Ararat Pony Club President, said "We are delighted to see this project moving ahead, thanks to the partnership between the Pony Club and Council. Having a covered arena will mean our riders are able to continue developing their skills and enjoying equestrian activities, no matter the weather. It's been fantastic to work so closely with Council, and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of riders to a truly modern local facility."

Council officers will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
