Ararat Rural City Council suspends services for the community's protection during COVID-19 pandemic

Ararat Rural City Council will suspend some services from 5.15pm today (Monday 16 March 2020) until further notice to help ensure the health and safety of the community and help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

CEO Dr Tim Harrison said it was paramount for the Council to protect the health and welfare of residents at this time.

"Ararat Rural City Council has not taken this decision lightly but we need to ensure the community is protected from the spread of COVID-19," Dr Harrison said.

"After taking advice from officials, temporarily closing down services where people gather in groups and come into contact with each other is one very important step Council can take.

"Council is continuing to take advice from State and Federal Government departments, East Grampians Health Service and the Municipal Association of Victoria, who are all working together on a coordinated response to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus."
