Armed robbery charge in Atherton, QLD

Detectives have charged a man following an armed robbery at a shopping centre in Atherton yesterday morning, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at around 11:45am a man entered a computer game store at a shopping centre on Cook Street armed with a knife.

Police will further allege the man demanded money from an employee before fleeing the scene with a sum of cash.

No one was physically injured during the robbery.

As a result of their investigations police took a man into custody at a motel in Mareeba just before midnight.

A 24-year-old Tolga man has been charged with armed robbery and is due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court on May 22.
