Armed Robbery with Extreme Violence in Southport

Police are investigating the assault of two men at Southport on Wednesday night; the kidnapping, deprivation of liberty and torture of one and attempted kidnapping and armed robbery of the other.

Around 8pm on January 18, a 24-year-old South Australian man and a 22-year-old Southport man were in the carpark of a Southport apartment complex when they were approached by five men wearing balaclavas, who had arrived in a Nissan Maxima.

A physical altercation ensued and both men were forced into the 24-year-old's 2020 Mercedes Benz C63 sedan.

The 24-year-old man managed to escape, but the group fled with his mobile phone and the 22-year-old in the Mercedes.

Police were notified by witnesses around 8.20pm.

The 24-year-old was located with facial injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The 22-year-old was driven a short distance before he was transferred to another vehicle and transported to a secondary address where he was tied to a chair, assaulted and threatened with what is believed to be a firearm.

The 22-year-old was then dropped off at a Burbank location before the group fled.

The 22-year-old used a ride-share operator to return to the Southport unit block around 11.30pm where officers located him with injuries to his face and wrists.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The 24-year-old's stolen Mercedes Benz was located abandoned at Brighton Parade, Southport, around 9.45pm.

Detectives also since recovered the Nissan Maxima at Park Lane, Southport.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information, or to anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious or captured dash-camera footage in the vicinity of: Como Crescent, Brighton Parade, or Park Lane at Southport on the night of Wednesday January 18, to come forward.
