Arrest after College Grove scrub fire

Bunbury Detectives have charged a man after he allegedly set fire to bushland in College Grove yesterday, 6 March 2019, a total fire ban day.

It is alleged around 5pm, the man entered Manea Park Bushland Reserve located at the corner of Somerville Drive, College Grove and Winthrop Avenue, where he piled up leaves and sticks onto the path and set them alight.

It is further alleged he added more sticks as the flames grew bigger.

Department of Fire and Emergency Service attended and contained the fire, stopping it from spreading into bushland.

A 34-year-old man from South Bunbury has been charged with Wilfully Light or Cause to be Lit, a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage.

He is due to appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court today, 7 March 2019.
