Arrest of male for bomb hoax to schools in Victoria, NSW and SA

Victoria Police E-Crime Squad detectives, together with NSW Fraud & Cybercrime Squad and South Australia Police Electronic Crime Section detectives, have arrested a youth in relation to a series of bomb hoaxes in the three states, according to SA Police.

The bomb hoaxes were allegedly made to various education facilities throughout Victoria, NSW and South Australia between May 2016 and April 2017.

The extensive joint investigation resulted in the arrest of a 17-old-male today and the seizure of electronic devices.

The teen was charged with 74 offences, including:

· Victoria – 9 counts – Make bomb hoax

· NSW – 13 counts – Use carriage service to make a hoax threat

· SA – 49 Counts – Use carriage service to make a hoax threat

The youth appeared in court this afternoon and was bailed to 26 June 2017.

The states will continue to work together to investigate Cyber and High Tech crime and the teams are dedicated to reducing these types of incidents.
