Tennant Creek Police have arrested three male youths, aged 13, 14, and 15, and an 18-year-old male following a number of incidents over the weekend.
Around 11:00 pm on Saturday 1 September police received a report of an alleged aggravated assault at a service station.
Police believe the 18-year-old male and 13-year-old male entered the service station and stole property from the location. A store employee witnessed this occurring and as a result locked the store doors.
The 13-year-old male was able to flee the store while the 18-year-old remained locked inside the building. The 18-year-old is then alleged to have assaulted an employee by throwing cans of drink and punching him to the face.
Upon arrival police observed a large number of persons yelling in the bushland before decamping the area.
The 18-year-old male was arrested onsite and conveyed to the watch house.
He has been charged with:
• Assault worker
• Stealing
• Criminal damage
Police were then called to an unlawful entry at a bank around 1:30 am on Sunday morning. On arrival police caught sight of a suspect and gave chase. The suspect, a 14-year-old male, was apprehended by police. It is alleged the male then spat at police.
He was charged with:
• Damage to Property
• Unlawful Entry
• Assault Police
Approximately an hour later police received a report that a 13-year-old male was walking around with a stolen firearm. Police attended, arrested the youth, and recovered the .22 calibre firearm without incident.
Police believe the firearm was stolen by the 13-year-old and co-offenders during an unlawful entry around midnight.
The 13-year-old has been charged with:
• Stealing x 3
• Unlawful Entry x 3
• Possess Ammunition
• Possess / Use Firearm without a licence
• Recklessly Endanger Life
• Discharge Firearm
• Go Armed in Public
A 15-year-old has also been charged with:
• Possess / use Firearm
• Carry exposed Firearm in Public
• Go Armed in Public
Police are seeking information on further possible offenders.
Investigations are continuing.
