Arrests Made for Dangerous Driving in Alice Springs 18 July

NT Police have arrested five male youths after they allegedly drove a stolen motor vehicle dangerously in Alice Springs last night.

Around 7:15pm, police received a report of a grey Nissan Navara chasing security vehicles in Alice Springs.

The vehicle was identified as being stolen from a business on the North Stuart Hwy in Braitling on Wednesday morning.

Police observed the vehicle driving dangerously in the CBD, before it left the area travelling towards East Side. The vehicle subsequently returned and was sighted driving dangerously both on and off the road in Todd Street.

A resolution plan involving members from the Territory Safety Division, Social Order, Crime, and general duties was formulated, and tyre deflation device (TDD) points were established. A short pursuit commenced, and TDDs were successfully deployed on the vehicle in the Alice Springs CBD. It continued south along the Stuart Highway before coming to a stop on a dirt track adjacent to the highway in Kilgariff.

The five male occupants, aged 13, 13, 14, 14, and 17 fled the vehicle and were arrested without incident after a short foot chase.

They have all been charged in relation to this incident and will appear in court at a later date.

Three civilian cars were inadvertently spiked during the operation, with police reimbursing the owners for the damage to the tyres. No injuries were reported.
