Police have released images of a man as they continue to investigate a suspicious fire which destroyed six shops in Sydney’s west late last year, NSW Police say.
About 9.30pm on Tuesday 6 December 2016, police from Fairfield Local Area Command and emergency services responded to reports of a building fire at Ware Street, Fairfield.
Fire fighters from NSW Fire & Rescue battled to bring the blaze under control, and it was extinguished about 2.30am on Wednesday 7 December 2017. The fire caused significant damage to several businesses and significant disruption to surrounding businesses.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.
It is believed the fire started in Spencer Lane, behind Ware Street, and was targeted at one or more of the affected small businesses.
Detectives from the Property Crime Squad’s Arson Unit are investigating the fire under Strike Force Evens, and are examining possible links to commercial building fires at Enmore and Liverpool.
As their inquiries continue, strike force investigators have released CCTV of a man who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.
He is depicted as being between 170cm and 180cm tall, and having a slim build. He is wearing a dark jacket, shorts, and sneakers.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
