From an Aboriginal circus troupe in Western Australia to sculptural musical playgrounds in South Australia, the latest round of regional arts funding highlights rural creativity at its finest.
In this round, more than $1 million has been earmarked for art installations, projects, festivals and workshops and much more.
There’s an augmented reality project based in Brewarrina, New South Wales, dance workshops for the over 50s in Ulverstone, Tasmania, and a sculptural musical playground with a focus on mental health in Sherlock, South Australia.
Another project is tapping into the benefits of art for hospital patients. The artist in residency program in the renal unit of a Tasmanian hospital, offers artistic ways for patients to describe their dialysis experience and living with kidney disease, helping to promote understanding and healing.
Every year the Australian Government provides about $3.4 million through the Regional Arts Fund, creating opportunities for artists and audiences in regional and remote areas.
