  • ARTC has partnered with Plasser Australia to enhance rail operations
  • The partnership will deliver 5 custom-built machines to ARTC's network during 2025
  • TDX101 is the newest machine in the fleet and will be put to work across ARTC's vast network

Australia's rail future is on track with the arrival of TDX101-the country's newest high-speed, custom-built dynamic plain track tamper-now in final commissioning by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) in partnership with global track technology leader Plasser Australia.

A first-of-its-kind, custom-built machine, TDX101 marks a significant leap forward in ARTC's efforts to modernise its maintenance plant for significantly safer outcomes in front line maintenance operations.

The tamper is set to enter full operational service shortly, playing a critical role in ARTC's long-term network improvement strategy.

TDX101, a 09-3XD high speed plain track tamper, is specifically designed for Australian conditions. It is now in its final stages of commissioning with its sister machine BX101, a SSP305 high-performance ballast regulator. These machines will be joined in late 2025 by a Unimat 09-2X-4×4/4S dynamic plain track and turnout tamper, partnered with a SSP303 regulator, which further strengthens ARTC's high speed resurfacing capability.

These advanced machines will boost tamping production rates and enhance track maintenance quality, reducing the need for temporary speed restrictions - delivering benefits for both freight and passenger services across the country.

ARTC staff and customers continue to explore ARTC's newest machines up close, with guided tours highlighting their advanced capabilities.

Clinton Crump, Group Executive Operations, ARTC, said:

"TDX101 represents a step change in how we maintain and improve the network. These high-speed machines will allow us to work more safely, efficiently and improve ride quality for all rail users.

"With this new generation of track machines, we're not just upgrading equipment, we're transforming how we deliver maintenance. This will enable faster, more consistent results and ultimately a more reliable network for our customers.

"By investing in these innovative, custom-built solutions, ARTC is building the capability needed to support the safe and efficient movement of freight and passengers well into the future."

Nathan Stevens, Sales and Marketing Manager, Plasser Australia, said:

"ARTC will receive the most advanced Plasser track machines ever delivered in Australia - setting new industry benchmarks in safety, performance, and compliance. We've invested over 100,000 hours in the design and manufacture of these machines, which reflect our deep commitment to innovation and excellence in rail technology.

"The entire team at Plasser Australia is proud to see the first machines of this kind leave our factory. As an Australian manufacturer, we're especially proud to deliver locally built, world-class equipment in partnership with ARTC - supporting not only superior rail outcomes, but also the highest standards in safety and environmental responsibility."
