Wagga Wagga Art Gallery welcomes the latest 2025 Regional Artist Development (RAD) Program exhibition by Samuel Sharman, opening Friday 21 November in the E3 art space.
Sharman, a local artist and teacher, presents The Rural Savant-Garden II: Distance makes the Art grow fonder III, which reflects on his experiences teaching across rural New South Wales, exploring the connection between art, place, and community.
Featuring an immersive soundscape, titled The Land, and a feature-length film A Town Called Tomorrow, the exhibition invites visitors to experience life in regional Australia through the artist's eyes.
"Travelling around as a teacher enriches new landscapes and circumstances that give me subject matter to create art" Samuel Sharman said.
The Rural Savant-Garden II is part of Sharman's long-term multidisciplinary project Distance makes the Art grow fonder, developed over more than a decade and dedicated to colleagues and friends in rural education communities.
Acting Gallery Director Claire Harris said "the RAD Exhibition Program provides valuable professional development for local and regional artists, offering the opportunity to exhibit at the Gallery with mentoring and support from staff."
An opening celebration for Samuel Sharman's The Rural Savant-Garden II: Distance makes the Art grow fonder III will be held on Friday 21 November 2025, 5:30pm - 7pm in the E3 art space, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
