Ashurst advises AGL on Liddell power station demolition contract

Global law firm Ashurst has advised AGL on its contract with Delta for the proposed demolition of the Liddell power station. The execution of this contract is a significant step in the Liddell transition project.

The Liddell power station is located in the NSW Hunter Valley. The full closure of the Liddell power station will take place in April 2023. It will be the first of AGL's thermal generation sites to be converted into an integrated, low-carbon industrial energy hub, which will support energy reliability and regional economic development. The Liddell transition project forms part of the broader AGL strategy to transition away from coal and focus on new renewable and firming capacity.

Ashurst partner Gareth Sage commented "Ashurst is proud to be working with AGL on this landmark project as AGL executes its strategy to reshape its energy portfolio."

The Ashurst team was led by Gareth Sage, who was assisted by counsel Ben Kipic and associate Sandy Jassal (Transport and infrastructure).
