Assault and Robbery – West End Townsville

Police are investigating after a 39-year-old man was assaulted during an incident at West End early this morning, Queensland Police say.

Around 2am at a fast food outlet carpark in Aitkenvale, a man approached three men in a vehicle and requested a lift. As the men were travelling through West End, the man produced a samurai sword and stole money from an 18-year-old passenger.

The group attempted to push the man from the vehicle, when one of them was assaulted with the sword. They then managed to force him out of the car on Henry Street and drove to a safe location where they phoned triple zero.

The 39-year-old victim was taken to the Townsville Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and has since been released.

The man is described as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, about 170cm tall with a proportionate build with brown eyes and brown hair.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have been in the area of Henry Street at the time, or who may have dash cam vision to contact police.
