Assault And Stealing Charges At Ipswich

Police have arrested a man following a disturbance in Ipswich yesterday afternoon, 9 March.

Officers attended an address on Peacock Street in One Mile around 3pm to speak to a 36-year-old Newtown man in relation to a wanted person enquiry.

Upon arrival, it will be alleged the man barricaded himself inside a property where he had a firearm.

Specialist officers arrived at the scene a short time later and an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) was made around 8pm.

The man was arrested shortly before 12am and five people, who were also in the property at the time of the incident, were able to leave safely.

The man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police officer, stealing and contravention of domestic violence order.

He is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on 10 March.
