Nillumbik's 2026 Local Remix; Assembly exhibition brings together more than 60 artists in a celebration of the Shire's rich history of artistic communities, collaboration and creative exchange.
Presented at Montsalvat, the exhibition draws on works from the Nillumbik Art Collection alongside selected loaned artworks, highlighting the enduring influence of artist enclaves including Montsalvat, Dunmoochin, Baldessin Press and Garambi Baanj/Laughing Waters.
Nillumbik Mayor, Cr Naomi Joiner said Assembly reflects the deep connection between Nillumbik's artistic identity and the communities that have shaped it across generations.
"Nillumbik has long been a place where artists gather, experiment and create," Cr Joiner said.
"From the founding of Montsalvat in the 1930s to the creative energy of Dunmoochin and the ongoing legacy of artist residencies at Baldessin Press and Garambi Baanj/Laughing Waters, these creative communities continue to shape the cultural life of our Shire."
Assembly celebrates the richness that emerges when artists and communities come together, while also inviting audiences to reflect on the stories, artworks and creative legacies that continue to define Nillumbik.
The exhibition explores themes of connection, collaboration and continuity, reflecting the evolution of Nillumbik's creative networks and the growth of the Nillumbik Shire Council Art Collection over many years.
In addition to the exhibition, a series of free artist-led programs for adults and children will provide opportunities for visitors to engage more deeply with the artworks and stories on display.
