Residents in West Rockhampton can get set to enjoy the warmer Spring weather at a renewed playground soon to be delivered at Athelstane Park.

Rockhampton Regional Council will be undertaking playground equipment renewal from 9-12 August.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the current equipment is at end-of-life, and the upgrade will ensure the area can continue to be used by the community.

"Council will be undertaking the works from Tuesday with the playground closed to the public reopening on 13 August," Cr Rutherford said.

"The Park will see a new swing set, sand digger, velocity carousal, and seesaw installed.

"Our parks play a fundamental role in our community. The renewal of this playground will mean that young families in the area will have a great play option to walk to in the afternoons or head to on the weekend.

"I am looking forward to seeing families in the area utilise the park.

"The works will have minimal impacts on the community, with minor interruption to surrounds due to machinery during the closure.

"The project has been solely funded by the Rockhampton Regional Council and will be undertaken by Council."
