Atomic Wallet Faces Backlash Amid Data Breach

Atomic Wallet, a multicurrency digital wallet provider, is grappling with increasing criticism and outrage from its users following a severe security breach which is believed to have been caused by improperly configured server settings and negligence.

Thousands of disgruntled users have taken to Twitter and various internet forums, voicing their frustrations over the company's perceived lack of timely response and communication.

In a recent Twitter update, Atomic Wallet claimed that less than 1% of its active users had been affected by the breach. "At the moment, less than 1 per cent of our monthly active users have been affected/reported. Last drained transaction was confirmed over 40h ago," the team tweeted.

However, this claim has been met with sharp backlash from users, many of whom accused the company of disseminating false information. They posted screenshots pointing their wallets were drained less than 24 hours ago, contrary to the company's assertion.

"Last drained transaction over 40 hrs ago? False. My wallet got drained 1pm June 4th, sent details to your support email. I hope you'll be compensating us Atomic," one user challenged Atomic Wallet's claims in a Tweeter reply.

Many users also shared their grievances regarding unanswered support requests.

Given the context of negligence and breach of trust, users are demanding full compensation for their losses, putting the Estonia-based Atomic Wallet under significant scrutiny and pressure.

As the magnitude of the breach and its financial implications continue to unfold, it remains uncertain whether Atomic Wallet will have the financial resources or appropriate level of insurance to fully reimburse the affected users, or if this incident could potentially push the company towards bankruptcy.

Back in November 2022, its competitor, Trust Wallet, compensated users impacted by a security flaw in its browser extension, though the scale of that particular breach was relatively minor in comparison.
