Attempted murder charges at Toowoomba

Police have charged two men with multiple offences, including attempted murder, following a string of alleged violent offences in Toowoomba over the past three weeks.

On Wednesday, October 18, it's alleged two men aged 18 and 19 forced entry to a dwelling on Trousdell Court in Rockville, when they became involved in an altercation with the male occupant of the home.

During the incident, the 68-year-old victim was struck with a tomahawk and sustained serious injuries.

The two men fled on foot soon afterwards.

Yesterday, November 6, a man was sitting in his car on Goombungee Road in Harlaxton, when a 19-year-old man allegedly opened the vehicle and threatened him, before hitting the victim with the blunt end of the knife.

The victim managed to flee by driving away. He suffered minor injuries from the incident.

Minutes later, a man and woman were changing a tyre on a vehicle which was also parked on Goombungee Road in Harlaxton, when an allegedly stolen Hyundai Voloster pulled up beside them.

Two men got out of the car and allegedly threatened the pair with a meat cleaver, a knife and an axe, demanding they hand over the keys to the car, but the pair refused.

Both alleged offenders then fled in the car they arrived in, which was allegedly stolen from an address on Grenier Street in Toowoomba, a day prior on November 5. The car was later found abandoned at nearby Griffith Street.

Follow up enquiries by officers resulted in the arrest of the 18-year-old man at an address in Harlaxton soon afterwards.

Then around 12.30pm, a 19-year-old man allegedly broke into an address on Hill Street, Toowoomba City and stole personal items from the home, during which time, a 46-year-old male occupant of the home was assaulted with a piece of timber.

The offender fled and further enquiries by officers located the 19-year-old man at an address in Wilsonton.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, attempted enter premises and commit indictable offence and enter dwelling with intent.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with nine offences, including attempted murder, attempted robbery armed in company, attempted enter premises and commit indictable offence and receiving tainted property.

Both men are expected to appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today, Tuesday, November 7.

Investigations are ongoing.
